Welcome to my future plans page! Now that you are here, I would like to tell you the hopes and goals I have for my future.
My future is different than most high school seniors. At the end of this school year, my family will be moving to Colorado; however, I am not. I have decided to stay in Michigan where I will continue my education at either
Saginaw Valley State University or Western Michigan University. To some, this may seem like the wrong decision, and frankly I do not care. This year, I have realized that I am in control of my future, and I have to do what is best for my life. For me, that means staying in Michigan, even if it is not the easiest decision. To do this will require me to become more independent and responsible. There are still may unknowns, which is something I am not a fan of, but at the same time, and I am excited for the endless possibilities.
This fall, I will begin taking classes at whichever university I choose to attend. There I will be studying to become an Occupational Therapist. To do so, I will have to obtain a degree in Occupational Therapy. This will take me 5 or 6 years, depending on which school I choose. Both schools are ranked highly in Michigan for the occupational therapy program, which would help prepare me for my future.
Occupational therapy is career unlike any other. An occupational therapist treats ill or disabled patients through a variety of therapeutic activities. They help patients to develop, recover, and improve basic motor skills used in daily living and working. They typically work in schools, nursing homes, or hospitals. You may be wondering what inspired me to pursue this career. Well, you're about to find out!
Last year, I decided to start looking into various career options. I did this to avoid one of the many stresses of senior year. Although I was not sure what I wanted for my future, I knew that I wanted to be able to help others. For as long as I can remember, I have always had a heart for helping those in need. Therefore, when I began my search, my mom recommended looking into occupational therapy. To be honest, I had never even heard of occupational therapy. After researching the typical day of an occupational therapist, I realized this was a career that interested me. During my winter break, I job shadowed a family friend who was an occupational therapist at an elementary school in Ludington, and needless to say, I fell in love with the work.
I can now say that although my future is not completely planned, the things I do know make me excited for the life I am going have. I am confident that the college I choose will prepare me for my career, and that my career will allow me to accomplish the things I am passionate about.
